At the end of October 2018, CITRANS received another two ferries from NAUTIC Africa, bringing its total fleet to 9 ferries, serving greater Abidjan.  CITRANS is one of two companies to have been granted a license to transport commuters on Abidjan’s lagoons, a project that promises to revolutionize transport in and around Abidjan and significantly reduce commute times.

The Economic and Trade Office of Côte d’Ivoire, based in Johannesburg is very proud to have been involved in this iconic project from the beginning.  The Economic and Trade Representative, Mr. Patrice Mallet, has worked assiduously with the management of both CITRANS and NAUTIC Africa to ensure the success of this important intra-African project.

NAUTIC Africa’s Cape Town shipyard is supplying CITRANS with cutting edge ferries, built in Africa and uniquely adapted to African conditions.  Thanks to this partnership, Ivorians are now able to move from Abobo Doumé to Treichville in just 10 minutes, shaving 35 minutes off their normal commute and minimizing fossil fuel emissions.

This unique south-south partnership is a direct result of President Ouattara’s vision to improve intra-African trade by opening an Economic and Trade Office in Johannesburg.  The Johannesburg-based office, which is part of the Ministry of Economy and Finance, is responsible for identifying, supporting, and ensuring the success of business relationships between the SADC region and Côte d’Ivoire.
